Last year natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires impacted many parts of the United States. As members of the Feeding America network, Feeding Washington regularly works with food banks and partner state associations to ship loads of produce to food banks across the country.
When disaster strikes, these relationships are more important than ever. We were proud to support our food bank partners in their disaster recovery efforts by supplying loads of produce for distribution to those impacted.
Thanks to a generous donation of 3 loads of apples by Yakima Fruit & Cold Storage, Feeding Washington worked with Feeding America to coordinate transportation and send this fruit to 4 food banks in Texas to help Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
In October, we worked with the California Association of Food Banks to send 3 loads of apples and 1 of carrots to the Santa Rosa food bank as they fed neighbors displaced by the multiple fires burning across Northern California.
Both when disasters occur and also when faced with the everyday need of the millions of Americans facing hunger, Feeding Washington relies on the generosity and support of our produce partners to share fresh fruits and vegetables with communities in Washington and across the country.
